The process of the mining industry restructuring lead to the shutdown of many mines, in its turn sharpening problems of unemployment and social tension growth. That's why local municipalities are constrained to look for alternatives and to find opportunities developing new "non-mining" businesses.
Every municipality needs to support and encourage new and small business development. Under the MERIT-1 project we have developed a wide range of resources and materials to assist municipalities develop their services to SMEs.
Also we took some practical steps working on the Municipal Development Funds establishment. As a result 65 entrepreneurs received Tacis financial support (micro-credits) within a framework of our Project.
